Summit of the Americas
On December 3rd, President Brian Dean and Director Ines Calderon attended the 32nd Miami Conference on the Caribbean and Latin America where they participated in the Summit of the Americas Panel moderated by Ambassador Luis Lauredo. The conference, which focused primarily on the topics to be discussed in the upcoming Summit of the Americas meeting, was one of several get-togethers that were to take place in order to prepare for the annual summit. The Summit of the Americas will have its fifth summit on April 19th, 2009 in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. Jose Miguel Insulza, the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), has invited western hemispheric nations to the summit to consider the impact of the world’s economic situation on the region and stressed the importance of sound regional coordination.

• Energy Security
• Environmental Sustainability
• Public Security
• Democratic Governance
• Policy Framework and Implementation

Before the panel discussion, Brian Dean and Ines Calderon attended a private luncheon with OAS Amb. Hector Morales to discuss how Gateway Florida can organize a private sector forum for the April Summit.
